Orleans Beaches

Orleans is the last town before the Cape bends northward past its elbow and becomes sparsely populated. Unique to the town are several historical connections to France dating back to Samuel de Champlain's charting of Nauset Harbor in 1604. Orleans, incorporated in 1797, is a resort community on the outer Cape and was named after Louis-Phillippe Joseph, duc d'Orleans.  Today, enjoy walking Orleans historic district, explore museums and take in live theater performances. Take in the natural beauty of its shores and forests, discover the perfect spot for a whole range of outdoor sports including fishing, boating, swimming, biking and just plain relaxing in the clean, fresh air!

Nauset Beach, Orleans MA

Orleans is most famous for its beaches and harbors. Nauset Beach is one of the Cape's finest -- wide, sandy and almost ten miles long. A special section is reserved for off-road vehicles.

Skaket Beach facing Cape Cod Bay has less surf and warmer water for swimming. Great for younger children and families. The beach is long and allows for extended walks on the flats at low tide.

Adjacent to Skaket Beach is Rock Harbor, which moors numerous yachts and smaller craft along its granite dock. Located at the end of Rock Harbor Road. Skaket Beach is the great place to view the fireworks on July 3rd at dusk.

Namskaket is the name of the creek and associated salt marsh entering next to Skaket Beach to the South.  A salt marsh is a coastal wetland that extends landward up to the highest high tide line, that is, the highest spring tide of the year, and is characterized by plants that are well adapted to living in saline soils.

Nauset Beach, Orleans MA

Nauset Beach is famous for its crashing waves and its soft white sand and is considered one of the best beaches on the entire East Coast. A day at Nauset can make a Cape Codder out of anyone. Panoramic ocean views, warm sand and the shrill cry of seagulls all keep visitors returning to this shoreline year after year.

Cape Cod National Sea Shore

Cape Cod National Seashore comprises 43,604 acres of shoreline and upland landscape features, including a forty-mile-long stretch of pristine sandy beach, dozens of clear, deep, freshwater kettle ponds, and upland scenes that give evidence of how people have used the land. The Seashore offers six swimming beaches, eleven self-guiding nature trails, and a variety of picnic areas and scenic overlooks.
